                                                                     Meeting Minutes

                                                                       May 10, 2023

 

Meeting called to order by Co-President Elaine Yarbrough at 7:00 p.m.  Twenty members were in attendance. 

 

Allison Walker and Elaine Yarbrough provided the delicious treats for us.

 

Elaine asked if anyone had a funny story to share with us.  Liz Arguello, Judy Meyer and Kathy Cannon each shared a humorous story they experienced the week prior.  This was a great ice breaker and got us all in a joyful mood. 

 

Adopt a Family: The Collection Box was passed around to collect funds for the Pacifica Resource Center Holiday Fund.  These funds are used to purchase gifts for a selected family in need of a little help during the holidays.

 

Basket Raffle:  Jackie Belli is organizing the Raffle Baskets for the September meeting.  So far there are four baskets that have been volunteered for the raffle.  Anyone who is interested is collating a basket with a theme of their choice, please contact Jackie. 

 

Brown Bag Lunch:  Next Brown Bag Lunch is Friday May 26, 2023. Please let Julie Curry know you are interested in attending.   $15 is the fee for the day.

 

Jeanne Matysiak announced that she has two kits available for Veterans’ Quilts.

 

Maureen Hillard has two quilt kits to sell ($25-$30) with all the fabric pieces in the box.   If interested in purchasing please let her know.

 

San Mateo County Fair:  Fair entry deadline is closed.  Drop off for your entries are May 16 and 17 from 2:00-7:00 p.m. at the fairgrounds. Volunteers are still needed for the fair you can register under Volunteer/Genius.  Julie Curry announced that Laura reconsidered the Christmas Challenge so now it is a go for the fair.

 

Raffle:  Elaine asked for donations for the raffles we have during our meetings, we are running low on prizes.


Winners:  Jackie Belli, Joan Wiley, Kathy Cannon, Kathy Minasi, Carol   Murney, Sue Figone, Dana Miller and Maggie Harvey.

 

Dana Miller made an exciting announcement that she is opening a quilt studio in Pacifica.  It is going to be her working studio to do long arm services.  There will be classes in quilting, clothing, knitting etc.  anyone who is interested in teaching please contact Dana.  Her shop is called,” Coastside Quilt Studio.” 1305 Palmetto, Unit E.  Coastsidestudio.com.  Dana will have an opening in September.  

 

E for Easy projects:  Kathy Minasi, recommended a book called: I can Quilt, by

 

Carolyn Vogts.  Kathy said there are many easy projects i.e. pillowcases, bibs and very simple gifts.

 

Kathy Cannon:  easiest quilt to make is take 12 fat quarters sew them up 3 fat quarters by 4 fat quarters and you’ll have a twin sized quilt.

 

Liz Arguello loves her Rustys’ block!  Liz can cut and finish a Rusty’s block quilt in one hour. Liz also recommends the all time favorite: Disappearing Nine Patch.

 

Elaine Yarbrough:  My First Quilt Book machine sewing by: Winky Cherry .

 

Joan Wiley recommended an easy book called, Three Yard quilt book. 

 

Elaine announced we will have a special project on Thursday June 1, bring your machine and Elaine will demonstrate the 8 at a time star block, no supplies necessary, just bring your machine. We meet in the Craft room from 10:00 12:00. 

 

 Show and Tell: 

 1.Judy Miyake:  Brigette Heitland from Zen Chic, Write on White pattern.

 2.June Wallach: Presents, donation quilt for hospital wellness program

 3.Dana Miller:  Heather Black pattern, Scandinavian Pathway, earned 3rd place  at San Francisco Quilt Show.

 4.Kathy Minasi: Pillowcase with a dragon motif. Canadian Goose, wool applique with floral motif and a Celtic Love Knot design.

 5.Kathy Cannon: Wall hanging, Attic Windows, all made by the challenge fabric.

 6.Elaine Yarbrough:   A beautiful table topper constructed with the Moda challenge of greens, purple and cream. 

 

Next meeting is Wednesday June 14, 2023.  Presentation will be F for foundation piecing. Members are asked to bring to share their favorite foundation piecing technique(s).
